When to book? What do I wear? Where should I go? What do I include?
There are so many things to consider when you're preparing for your senior session here in South Georgia, and In the Light Creative Studio is here to help!
Let's start with the first question--When should I book?
That depends! Do you go to a high school with yearbook deadlines? If so, you'll need to verify those dates, but they are typically end of October/early November. This is one reason you may want to consider booking your session during the spring of your junior year. If your school or homeschool doesn't have a yearbook deadline, you may want to wait until later in the fall or even early spring of your senior year to take advantage of cooler weather. You'll definitely need to have your senior portrait session completed by early spring in order to have the photos available for your graduation announcements. Plan to contact your senior photographer 1-2 months in advance of the time you need your session in order to make sure you can get on their schedule.
Next question--what to wear?
At my portrait sessions, I guarantee at least 3 outfit changes, but we have done up to 6!
Pick an outfit you love and feel good in, let your mom pick an outfit SHE loves, and then try to pick one you can both agree on! Think about colors, fit, and style. Your outfits should be a reflection of your personality, but should also vibe with the environment. If you know what college you will attend, you may even want to bring some merch to represent and make that announcement to your friends and family! And don't forget about accessories--put hats, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, shoes, etc in a bag with the clothing you want them to coordinate with.
Now let's talk LOCATION!
Think about places that might be special to you. Do you like outdoors or a local coffee spot in Albany? Can you see yourself walking through tall grass or a downtown intersection? We can go to as many locations as we can get to in about 3 hours and within driving distance! One thing to consider is that we can also end your senior portrait session in my studio--think outside the box and let your creativity shine.
Finally...what should you bring?
This is all going to depend on YOU. Sometimes you really don't have to bring much besides yourself and a few outfits. But if you have hobbies or interests that you'd like to showcase, definitely bring those things! Also, if you have a class ring, be sure to wear it; we'll find creative ways to highlight that iconic piece of jewelry. Oh, and one more thing--think about bringing along your PET!
If you have a special furry family member it can be so fun to bring them along and grab a few frames with them in it. You'll need to make sure you have a leash and someone to act as "handler" for them when it's not their turn.
I hope this is helpful information for you as you begin the process of connecting with a senior portrait photographer. I book seniors all year round, and would love to connect with you! All of my clients receive attention to detail, styling advice, access to exclusive locations...and did I mention a set of awesome custom graduation announcements? Most of all, we have fun and create amazing memories you'll have for a lifetime!
